What are Enrichment Sessions?
Held Periodically Throughout The School Year
Time 3:15pm-4:15pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Enrichment Sessions are planned activities for Spruce Mountain Middle School Students. Enrichment is part of Spruce Mountain Afterschool which is a partnership of RSU 73 and UMF/Partnerships For Success and is funded through a 21st CCLC Grant. The program is made up of fun hands on activities that teach students many skills such as team building, leadership, life skills and creativity. Students will be exposed to many different activities while participating in Enrichment Sessions. Some of the favorite activities from years past are cooking healthy meals and snacks, taste testing, making fleece blankets, hiking, snow shoeing, creating one of a kind jewelry pieces, open gym, teambuilding competitions and recycled sled races! There are usually at least two activities planned and students will decide which activity they participate in for the week so there is always something for everyone!
Enrichment Sessions are also a time for Spruce Mountain Afterschool to tap into both staff and student’s hidden talents. We have staff from the school, UMF and the local community come in to teach and share with us their talents and skills. This helps to keep the program full of new activities and ideas.
Part of the program is also to build in community service projects. Students are asked to come up with projects that they think will help others. Once we decide on a project students work as a team to complete the project and present it. Students see firsthand how they can really make a positive impact on someone else and these projects tend to be some of the favorite things they do during Enrichment Sessions.
*If you think you would like to get involved, when you hear the announcement, please pick up the sign up information in the main office, fill it out and return it back to the main office. The program is structured in three week sessions so even if you can’t make every session it is an open door policy and students can still join just sign up.
There is a $25 fee for three weeks of programming, if you qualify for free or reduced lunch the fee is $10. No student will be denied programming because of the inability to pay.
